Our Beginning

Since the age of three, when Birthmark's founder, Domonic Patrick (Dom) learned to draw Mickey Mouse, Domonic has had a love for visual expression. As a freshman in high school, Dom participated in a district-wide poster contest and won first place with a funky, graffiti style drawing of downtown Seattle. Winning the poster contest planted a seed in Dom's mind about the real possibility of actually doing something with his talent.

In 1998, a friend recommended that Domonic take a look at a videotape from a local Graphic Design school. Dom decided to attend, and after graduating with high marks, he got his first break at a local award-winning ad agency called Canyon Communications. It was there that he learned the value of creating genuine relationships with clients, how good design, and critical conceptual skill were to visual communication, and how important it is to create a great work environment for your staff.

From quickly working his way from a Junior to a Senior Designer at Canyon, to managing a busy in-house art department, to an Art Director at an award-winning design firm and a Senior Interactive Designer at a digital media firm - Dom has worked in nearly every capacity in the design field. Dom has worked on everything from full blown corporate identity programs, to advertising, interactive flash presentations, websites and identity projects. Dom has done creative work for clients such as ACT!, Subway, LG, Kemper Sports, Nike Golf, CBRE, RSC Equipment Rental and the City of Phoenix.

Dom's passion for design, and for building great relationships with clients led him to create Birthmark in February of 2008. Dom's aim for Birthmark is to provide excellence service to clients looking to renew, refresh, or begin working on their brand identity. Dom enjoys working with small businesses because of the rewarding experience of becoming close with clients and their business, and to watch them grow and succeed, in part, because of the work Birthmark does.

Giving Back

Birthmark's vision for giving back to the community is to reach young teens and high school kids in high schools, juvenile detention centers and foster homes, and talk to them about how Dom's gift of visual expression opened a door for success and opportunity. By telling his story hopefully, it is Domonic's hope that it will inspire some to take a different path in life and use their talent to find their purpose in life.
